Ibn ‘Abbās reported that Allāh’s messenger (PBUH) Said: “Gabriel taught me to recite in one mode, and when I replied to him and kept asking him to give me more he did so till he reached seven modes."
Ibn Shihāb said he had heard that those seven modes are essentially one, not differing about what is permitted and what is prohibited. (Bukhārī and Muslim.)
• If your intention is to learn the ten Qirā’āt, then studying the Shātibiyyah poem has many great advantages; the main one is having the information in your mind to refer to when in doubt of how a particular Qāri' recites a certain word.
• Some obtain an Ijāzah in the seven Qirā'āt by the way of Ash-Shātibiyyah, and then later complete the ten by reciting the remaining three Qirā'ah of Matn Ad-Dorrah.
• Supporting the student with recordings and slides that help him to remember and master.
